Rozelle Artists Guild

Rozelle Artists Guild is a collective of young artists in Memphis, TN. We host exhibitions, projects, music shows, and other happenings around town in collaboration with other artists, musicians, organizations and venues. Our goal is to establish a community where all kinds of artists can find support and opportunities for collaboration.

R.A.G. started in 2007 with a group of MCA art students, keys to an abandoned warehouse, and a vague idea about the power of collaborative art making. Since then, we’ve expanded, refocused, and realized that we don’t need a physical space to be a viable presence in the art community.

FreeSol – Fascinated & Role Model

Have to give a plug to Memphis act FreeSol, performing Fascinated and Role Model live on David Letterman. Great to see another local act making it on the national stage. My best wishes to them in their endeavors – hopefully they can bring some great recognition to this city of ours.

Statica.com Projects in Development

Saturday Nov. 26, 2011
Projects currently in the early stages of development:

  • Memphis Sticker Show: Looking at sometime in early Spring 2012, this will event will center around international sticker artists and the concept of urban adhesive. With the goals of showcasing at least 100 global artists, one space (to be determined) will be converted into a sticker wonderland. Will include DJs, local hip-hop/rap artists, break-dancers, etc…
  • Memphis Film Collective: I have recently been invited into a new Memphis film collective. This will start with several small projects (short films ranging from 2-10 minutes) and will hopefully evolve into an independent feature film juggernaut.
  • DJ Events: I have been very, very quiet over the past year in terms of DJing in Memphis. In fact, I’ve disappeared from the Memphis scene all-together. Many people have been insisting I come back, promote a few nights and bring back some of the old music. I am seriously starting to contemplating a few more one-off nights. Looking at early 2012.

There are other projects in mind, but I am not getting too far ahead of myself. These are my immediate projects that I expect to be involved with over the next couple of months. Stay tuned for more.

Cyndi Lauper – To Memphis with Love DVD

When many people think of Cyndi Lauper, they instinctively think of the 80′s pop singer with bright hair, over-done makeup and that unforgettable squeaky voice belting out “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

Well, Cyndi Lauper is all grown up and she is no longer that stereotypical 80′s icon. With her powerful voice and deep emotion, she performs 15 tracks, each with a real, bluesy Memphis feel.  She understands the roots of the city and embraces the very nature of the music.  I wasn’t sure if she could do it, but after hearing her first few notes, it was quite evident… she got it and got it right.

This live performance DVD was shot at the Warehouse in Memphis, TN on December 2, 2010 and features several local Memphis musicians.  Special guests include Johnny Lang, Charlie Musselwhite, Tracy Nelson and Allen Toussaint.

This live performance is pure, raw Memphis.  I recommend it.

Stencil Art on Canvas (2011)

This is the first compiled collection of stencil art from Memphis artist Jonas Stoltz.  These pieces were all done on canvas (except the Jerry Springer which was done on a wall during the Memphis 48 project).

93X Website Flippers

Well, it has been a few years since the demise of 93X and I still feel the pain of loosing the station.  As I was going through my graphic archives, I found all my old 93X website flippers – graphic design by Jonas Stoltz.  These brought back some good memories.  And I thought… why not present a few of them here.  If I discover other “good” ones, I’ll add them to this gallery.  Enjoy…

Entercom Memphis Website Flipper Archive

Here is a growing collection of Flipper Images from the radio station websites I managed over the past 4 years. All graphic designs are by Jonas Stoltz… more coming soon.

93X Fest Video from 2008

I started working with Entercom Radio in 2008 and one of the first large projects I had the pleasure to be involved with was the 93X Fest.  This is a video edit from that event.  Sadly, this was the last 93X Fest and the station changed formats shortly thereafter.  I miss the station, like many others in the city of Memphis… so let this be a reminder of what we once had.

This video showcases everything I love about the music industry – the live performance, the lights, the crowd and most importantly the music.

Includes live footage from: The Nina Makris Band, P.O.D., Saving Abel, Sevendust, Buck Cherry and Shinedown.

All video shot and edited by Jonas Stoltz, 2008.  Copy it, upload it, share it, and let us never forget what real rock is.
